“total relaxation of mind, body n soul!!!!!”
we stayed at ubr for 5 nights n 6 days with our children. It was truly amazing and a peaceful experience and at the same time lively in the evenings. Despite the weather playing spoil sport we loved the resort even more. A very clean beach, nice pool ,n the pool attendant Indika ,who very lovingly looked after the kids,..there was table tennis, beach volley ball n aqua aerobics too!!!
the food was good too n all the staff were simply fantastic with their always helpful n smiling faces!!!
interesting places to visit with the kids like the turtle hatchery n the virgin white tea plantations ,mangrove boat ride.....educative too.
believe the best time to visit n catch some whale watching n snorkeling wud b august onwards up to April
a very special thanks to Mrs. &, Mr Vinodh De Silva
for their kind hospitality and to Mr Reny for taking such good care of our needs.
god willing we would love to go back in the near future, to explore more of srilanka beautiful n virgin nature.......a must go....d kids simply had a blast
Room Tip: opt for a luxury suite if going with children

“This hotel is a Gem”
This hotel is a Gem; found on one of the best beaches on Sri Lanka in a beautiful bay nestled amongst small boutique hotels and restaurants. We stayed in the luxury suite which definitely had the "wow" factor in luxury, comfort and extra's including a butler service where you had exclusive dining served to you by your butler! Above all, the staff and service are exemplary. Never before have I been to a hotel where your needs are anticipated and delivered with professionalism and a true smile. The staff are a credit to this establishment and contribute to a wonderful holiday experience.

“Fantastic and Friendly Staff”
I was holidaying at Unawatuna beach resort in February, and I must say that I had a relaxing time.
The staff at the resort was extremely friendly and courteous. They bent over backwards to help us in every way possible,
The room that we stayed in was clean and well presented, I was told by the butler that this section was a new addition to the property; I hope they will be maintained to the same standard.
We would recommend this as a fantastic place to visit; we will be visiting this resort when we next holiday in Sri Lanka.

“total package!!”
We went to this hotel after a disastrous experience just south of Unawatuna. Mr Reny de Silva who is the manager was so accommodating to us. We took the deluxe room except for one night as they had our room already booked. They moved us to a superior room which was okay....we had a view which helped but the new section is the place to stay. The food was very good....lots of selection and variety. They don't put enough booze in their cocktails, but maybe that says more about me then them!! The staff were outstanding. I tore the skin on my lower leg and the butler took me to the front office and dressed my wound with exactly what was needed. The owners wife was watching from a distance and seemed pleased as to how my care was playing out. We did a few hours at the spa for a pedicure and massage to great effect. This resort is a serious offering for those looking for a well managed holiday spot. Unawatuna Beach resort is spot ont!! Best regards to all from Steve and Mark. Room Tip: The new wing is huge and well appointed. Worth i.

We had the pleasure of staying at UBR for eight nights from the 4th of March. The Luxury Rooms were well appointed and the Resort’s facilities were very comfortable.
Of particular note was the friendliness and helpfulness of all staff. The overall ambience of UBR was outstanding. We have stayed at many resorts in Indonesia, Thailand and Viet Nam, for example, but the general atmosphere of UBR and especially the attentiveness of the staff made our stay memorable.
It is especially pleasing to note our admiration of Gamini Chandrasiri, who you introduced us to, for his wealth of knowledge of the local culture and attractions as well as his driving skills.
If UBR has an “Employee of the Month” scheme our highest recommendation would be for Butler Mahreesha who is an outstanding member of staff and who could not have been more attentive to our comfort during our stay.
Thank you also to yourself for a very professional presentation.

Great place, not much to do, but the beach and ocean are absolutely amazing...

my wife and daughter and I stayed at the ubr for the first two weeks of June 2009, boy what a place.best ever. We were treated like long lost friends by all the staff, and the food,5 star. The hotel driver Gamini, became our friend over our stay, even bringing us to his family home. If you go be sure yo ask for him, he is a mine of knowledge and must be the best driver in Sri Lanka. The waiting staff, security staff and all other staff were a credit to the hotel.

I cannot understand that somebody finds rooms in UBR not clean. I assume this person must have been sleeping in a local guesthouse, but not in UBR.
The food not ok? Well, come and judge for yourself. UBR is is one of the only Sri Lankan hotels with a French top chef. Gilles turns every meal into something that you do not see very often in Sri Lanka.
I stay in UBR every 8 weeks since 2005 and have nothing but positive experiences. Even when things go wrong (and where doesn't something go wrong) UBR's management deals with it and resolves it if it is within their power to do so.
So, again, book this hotel without any worries about cleanliness and enjoy the food.

I find the review published here by raj_73 entitled 'Upsetting experience at UBR' unbelievable. I have stayed at this hotel on 4 seperate occassions and intend to stay again in October this year. I have always found ALL of the staff to be friendly, helpful and very professional. I would not hesitate to recommend a stay at UBR.

Our stay in sri lanka was definitly enhanced by our stay at UBR. the position on the beach and near proximity to Galle and other interesting places was excellent. The staff food service and personalities at the UBR made our stay fun and we feel a great example of sri lankan civility

We really enjoyed our stay at the Unawatuna Beach Resort, we stayed over Christmas week last year. It is located in the center of the beautiful beach, which is the best location on the U-shaped cove. There are lounge chairs for your use, and there is snorkling right off of the beach, or you can have Asanka, the super helpful diving/tour organizer hire you a boat to take you around the corner for more undersea adventures.
The rooms are a moderate and sufficient size, and have all of the imenities that you need (a/c, TV, patio, laundry, etc.). The staff was always helpful and accomodating, and our room boy was amazing. Every night he made a beautiful display on our bed with flowers. On the last night, he spelled out Good Bye for us, which made us cry!
The food is really good, the breakfast buffet is tons of food, and the bar makes the best cocktails on the beach. Go to Sri Lanka and support the local people, there are no risks going to the Southern part, and they are the friendliest people in the world! Unawatuna is a really cute town, and a good base for a Southern excursion.

As a seasoned traveler I can say that the UBR is located on the best beach of Sri Lanka. The Unawatuna Beach Resort is a hotel which provides excellent service to its guests. The staff is friendly and willing to go the extra mile to help with any request. Especially the dinners are excellent in variety and taste. The rooms have all necessities and more. The safe, free of charge, is big enough to put a laptop in. The cleaning staff is good and helpful. This is the only hotel I know of in Sri Lanka which offers beach chairs on the beach itself. Their is enough shade and the sea is clean and great to swim in. We will be back!!!
